On the 14th November 2011, my partner Gabby and I travelled to Birmingham to watch the amazing Heather Peace perform an intimate stripped back set at The Glee Club. It was only in the preceding weeks that I actually heard Heather sing for the first time and from that moment on I was hooked even deeper. I had seen Heather in Ultimate Force as a young teenager and then again in Lip Service more recently. So not only could Heather be a versatile actress, she also has a beautiful voice and her lyrics really mean something as they relatable to anyone who has fallen in or out of love.
So, I grabbed the opportunity to get tickets from somebody who could no longer attend as the gig was already sold out. I was naturally nervous as we had to travel a little way and I had never been to a gig like this before and I was obviously very excited to see Heather. Another major perk about this particular gig was that a piece of signed merchandise was included and also a meet and greet with Heather after the gig.
Sadly, we were not aloud to take photographs during the gig, however I understand why! So after Heather cleverly sneaks through the crowd and onto the stage she proceeds to perform no covers, only her own material including potential new tracks for her upcoming album. All of which I thought were beautiful and couldn't help but get drawn into the lyrics and the feelings behind the words.
It felt like my partner and I were a couple of the youngest people there, yet I didn't feel uncomfortable, just more excited that I was such a fan and almost half the age of some of the women in the audience!
So after the gig we were given a Heather Peace t-shirt with tour dates on the back, I brought along my Diva magazine of which Heather is on the cover, to get signed and then we had our picture taken with her. It was all a bit surreal and rather rushed but Heather was very friendly and appears to be very appreciative of her fans.
I also bought a copy of her first album which I listened to on the long(ish) drive home which was eventful in itself as firstly I unfortunately ran over a fox on the motorway, which was a first for me and isn't an experience I want to repeat, and secondly we were diverted off the motorway, which added to our journey time.
However, despite all this, I went home satisfied that I had met Heather, listened to her beautiful music, met some lovely new people and had a generally great evening out!
I definitely intend on seeing Heather again and can see her music career only climbing up and up from here on out!
